Deborah Lapidus

New York native Deborah Lapidus, a faculty member since 1987, teaches singing in the drama department. Her film work includes Happythankyoumoreplease (2010), Evening (2007, as vocal coach to Clare Danes), and The Girl in the Park (2007, as vocal coach to Sigourney Weaver). On Broadway, she has worked as singing coach for Jane Fonda in 33 Variations and as a coach on After the Fall and Waiting in the Wings. Her musical directing credits include Misia (Ravinia Festival), Camelot and My Fair Lady (Berkshire Theater Festival), and A Little Night Music, 1776, and A Funny Thing ... (Williamstown Theatre Festival). She has served as director for seven seasons of Williamstown’s cabaret, featuring such artists as James Naughton, Blythe Danner, Nathan Lane, Anne Reinking, and Christopher Reeve. She was the coach for Bernstein: The Best of All Possible Worlds (Carnegie Hall, PBS’ Great Performances) and directed The Lerner and Loewe Revue at Rainbow and Stars and Chris Durang and Dawne at multiple venues. Lapidus has directed for Opera Omaha, Chautauqua Opera, and Texas State Opera Theater and been a guest lecturer for the Arts Educational Schools in London. She is on faculty at NYU Tisch School’s graduate acting program and is a guest faculty member at Victoria College of the Arts in Melbourne. She has been interviewed for GQ magazine and was also a guest on National Public Radio’s Sound Check. Lapidus received her BA from the University of Maryland.
